As per the inscriptions of Sri T.T., Tirumala, the earliest reference of cows appear in chola period of Kulothunga Chola-1(1070 - 1122 AD). Thus the maintenance of cows by TTD was in vogue since ancient days.
In 1956 S.V. Dairy Farm was established in the present premises in an area of 400 acres. The nomenclature of the Institution i.e., S.V.Dairy Farm has been changed as "S.V.Gosamrakshana Shala" during the year 2004.
3.3 Sri Venkateswara Gosamrakshana Trust was established by TTD under the administrative control of Director, S.V. Gosamrakshana Shala, during the year - 2002, and registered as Trust vide Registration No. 8/2002.
To serve as an abode for the holy cattle received as donation / Gosamarpana/Godanam and to maintain them by providing good environment, management, feeding. etc., as a part of Gosamrakshana (or) Cow Protection.
To produce pure cows' milk and supply milk, curd and butter to TTD Temples for rituals, Abhishekam, Prasadams etc. and to other TTD Institutions.
Paraphernalia animals like Elephants, Horses, Damaram bulls etc. are also being maintained for arranging them to temples, rituals, deities processions etc. for maintaining decency, decorum and splendor. This custom is in vogue since ancient days.
Procurement and supply of milk to SVNAC, Tirumala and VQC, Tirumala, for distribution of 100 ml of boiled milk to each pilgrim waiting for Lord's Darshan.
